Just a few kilometers from the city of Thessaloniki, on top of Filyro in a place dry and stony but with a great view, "sprouted" suddenly a small, colored state: The first "Greek Children's Village." The first eight houses, an administration building, a church. But thousands of trees that have changed the landscape, which with its large rocks is something unique. All life the "Greek Children's Village" in Filyro filled with children's voices, joys and songs and animated throughout the region. In setting up the "Greek Children's Village" (then "Children's Village of Northern Greece") led to a lack of space for long hosting orphans and abandoned children or coming from problematic family environment. The need to have a form of child protection will not institutional in nature but will provide family support, safety and treatment based on the Greek - Orthodox Tradition, but in the early modern pedagogy and psychology. The problem of children without families or children who mistreat parents not having to feed them is probably greater than the average person can imagine. Many children spend the first years of their lives in deprivation and the worst living conditions existing abandoned and often criminal behavior of persons of their close environment. In these children the "Greek Children's Village" in Filyro wants to give a true family.
